Oxford

Oxford is home to the third oldest university in the world, with evidence of teaching stretching back to the 11th century. Above and to the left, you can see the Bodleian Library, the hub of the Oxford University Press, which supposedly houses a copy of almost every single book ever published (mostly underground, below the streets--we were told that, if you ever notice a wide street in Oxford, there's probably a bunch of books underneath it).

Rowan and Baba in front of the Bodleian Library--seeing as we're not students, we weren't allowed in. Here, Rowan is trying to get Baba to let him push the stroller, a conflict which continued for 5 weeks before we finally got wise and gave the damn thing away.

In front of the gardens of Christ Church, where Lewis Carroll attended services and which contains a staircase featured in many of the Harry Potter films.

You've got to hand it to the English, they know how to manicure their gardens, landscapes and buildings, as evidenced by this neatly designed ivy plant on the side of Christ Church.

Rowan and Baba sit patiently by a commemorative well inside the cathedral.

Rowan stops to smell the flowers at the Botanical Gardens of Magdalene (pronounced "maudlin") College. Oxford, by the way, is made up of some 30 colleges, originally staring with 3, I believe. One of these was All Souls, which T. S. Eliot attended. Other famous attendees include Lewis Carroll (already mentioned) and J. R. R. Tolkein, among many others whose names elude me.

Mama and Rowan pose for one of the few good pictures with one another. Usually, Rowan is squirming around trying to get away.

Another good one on a bridge in the Botanical Gardens surrounded by irises. Next stop, Blenheim Palace and the Cotswolds.
